Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to sign up for internet service to have fiber installed?
No. At this time, there is no requirement to sign up for internet service in order to have fiber installed at your home or business. Acorn Connected is currently installing fiber-optic connectivity to all premises within our service area. The installation is completely free and ensures that your location will be ready for service whenever you choose to activate it in the future.
Fiber internet uses light to send data, which means it’s faster and can carry more information than older copper wiring. It can handle more devices at once, reach longer distances without losing quality, and isn’t affected by interference—making it great for homes and businesses that need reliable service.
Fiber to the Home” (FTTH) refers to the process of extending fiber-optic cables directly to your residence or business. This ensures you have access to the fastest and most reliable internet technology available today. Even if you don’t sign up for service right away, having fiber installed now means you’ll be ready for high-speed internet whenever you need it.

The installation process is completed by trained Acorn Connected technicians or our contractors and typically includes the following steps:

  1. Fiber Drop to your Property – A fiber-optic line is run from the main distribution line to your home or business.  This can be completed via aerial or underground installation methods, depending on the topography and property conditions.
  2. Placement of the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) – An ONT (also called a fiber jack) is installed in an out-of-the-way location on the outside of your home or your property.
  3. Fiber Splicing and Testing – Our broadband technicians fuse and test the fiber connection to ensure the signal is strong and reliable.
  4. Connection Readiness – Your property is officially “fiber-ready.” Even if you don’t sign up for service now, the infrastructure will be in place should you choose to connect later.
No. The fiber installation provided by Acorn Connected is completely free to all homes and businesses in our service area during the buildout phase. This installation is made possible by a grant from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program (TBCP). This free offer and investment is only available through July 2026, so act quickly to receive this free technological investment.
Yes. Whether we’re doing a full-service connection or preparing your home for future readiness, someone will need to be present. Our team may need access inside your home or business during the site visit, installation, or implementation phases. We’ll coordinate with you to schedule a convenient time.
You can decline installation at this stage. However, please note that installation is only free during the initial buildout project through July 2026. If you request installation later, there will be a cost associated of up to $40/foot, depending on the design and installation specifics for your property.
Your property will be “fiber-ready” whenever you want to activate service. Installation is free during the buildout phase. It may increase the long-term value of your property by ensuring modern connectivity is available. You’ll avoid the hassle and potential costs of requesting installation later.
Once the fiber buildout in your area is complete, Acorn Connected will announce service packages and pricing options. At that point, you can choose to activate internet service using the fiber connection already installed at your home. This will give you access to the fastest speeds offered in our region, and you will be supporting tribal business!
